I gather from the description that minefields apply their attack damage to all attacking ships at the beginning of combat. Is this correct?

If a minefield attacks, is it used up, or does it remain to fight another day?

Can a system have more than one minefield?

I can't answer your first two questions, but I know fOr a fact that a system can have more than one. I have a planet with 3 minefields on it.

It may not hit all ships, they do have some avoidance potential. It might survive the fight, but if there are enough enemy ships I would expect them to clear the minefield. Yes, you can have multiple minefields at a planet. Their main bonus is that they get a free shot when the enemy enters orbit.
