Is it possible to move between galaxies?

If so, how? I have moved several probes to the edge of my starting galaxy and then issued them a move order to a sector in the next galaxy, but they just sit at the edge.

It is definitely possible. I've got three Galactic Sectors fully mapped and working on another two as I type this.
